• His favorite postcards are taken in the 2030s and 2040s and show how America used to be.
• As a child, the narrator comes to Alaska and sees snow for the first time.
• The narrator is part of the "Miraculous Generation: those born in the years between the start of the Second American Civil War in 2074 and its end in 2095" (4).
