Objective
This lesson introduces students to Jenny Han’s young adult romance novel Always and Forever, Lara Jean. Students will research the author and the previous novels in this trilogy, read Chapter 1, and identify and discuss the narrative style of the work. Always and Forever, Lara Jean is the third and final installment in the To All the Boys I Have Loved Before series. This coming of age novel follows the first-person narrative of Lara Jean Song Covey, a 17-year-old Korean-American girl as she transitions through her senior year of high school and prepares to depart for college.

Group Activity: Assign students to groups of 3-4 each. As a group, read Chapter 1. Following the reading, discuss what has been established regarding the main character of the story and how the story is told. What information is related of Lara Jean’s past in the first chapter...
