Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1-4)
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the exposition of the novel. Students will identify and analyze elements from the beginning of All This Time in order to identify the main characters, the setting, and any potential conflicts and themes the novel might contain.
The beginning of the novel introduces the reader to Kyle, the protagonist, Kim, his girlfriend, and the car accident that turns Kyle’s life upside down. The reader is introduced to themes involving trauma, grief, and identity. Finally, readers are introduced to potential conflicts, such as Kyle’s conflicts with Kim and with himself.
