Objective
As the Nazis begin to invade Poland, the German people welcome them with open arms. They see the Nazis as an answer to the depression and ruined economy that has plagued them for the last couple of years. The purpose of this lesson is to understand why the non-Jewish Poles may have welcomed to Nazis to their homes.
Lesson
1. Currently, we are in an economic depression that has left thousands of people without jobs and hope. Discuss with the class how a charismatic leader can take power and influence the minds of millions. What sorts of control would the leader have to exert among the common populace to completely take over?
2. Research the Nazi organization. How did Hitler create this group? What tactics did he use to position himself as the leader? Discuss in small groups how Hitler manipulated people into following his influence.
