Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author's background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the book. Bell hooks, born Gloria Jean Watkins is an American writer and activist. Hooks' writing often centers on the intersectional themes of race, gender, and sexuality.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Who is the author of All About Love: New Visions? What else has she written? Who is the book's intended audience? How was the book received by the public? Did it win any awards? What else has the author written?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and ask them to compile a list of facts about the author, encouraging them to include information that impacts the book's themes. Regroup and ask students to share their facts. Write a list on the board so it is visible to all students.
