• The following version of this book was used to create this Lesson Plan: All About Love: New Visions, bell hooks. William Morrow, 2001.
• When hooks was a child, it was clear to her that life was not worth living without love.
• It was love’s absence that let her know how much love mattered.
• Hooks was her father’s first daughter.
• At the moment of birth, she was looked upon with loving kindness, cherished and made to feel wanted on earth and in her home.
• To this day, hooks cannot recall when that feeling of being loved left her.
• All she knows is that one day she was no longer precious.
• Those who had initially loved her well turned away.
• The absence of their recognition pierced her heart and left her with a feeling of brokenheartedness so profound she was spellbound.
