• Sothy is a divorced mother of Cambodian descent living in California with her 12- and 16-year-old daughters Kayley and Tevy.

• Sothy's ex-husband, also Cambodian, left the family for another woman and had sons with her.

• Sothy runs a shop called Chuck's Donuts which is opened 24 hours per day, and in the summer, her daughters help her, staying overnight to work.

• A man begins coming in around 3 a.m. during the summer, ordering an apple fritter and not eating it.

• Kayley and Tevy begin to wonder who the man is and why he comes and just stares out the window.
