Although readers probably know much about Hitler's reign over Germany and the death of Jews under his leadership, in the beginning of the book we learn about Hitler's parents and his childhood. The objective of this lesson is to study Hitler's childhood and upbringing.
Lesson
1) Class discussion: Adolf Hitler's father Alois was born with the name Schicklgruber and was illegitimate. Alois became a civil servant and was given the name and the inheritance of J. N. Hiedler, and his last name was changed to Hitler. Where did Adolf Hitler grow up? What kind of home life did he have? How did his parents treat him?
2) Group debate: Divide into groups of three or four. In class, debate whether Hitler's father illegitimacy was a factor in his desire to be in positions of leadership. Why or why not? Take a position on the statement...
