Cheap Toilet Soap

Father Schwartz smells this on his lonely Saturday evening walks. He cannot escape it even as he crosses the street. This represents his loneliness and the inability to escape it.

Confessional

Rudolph and Father Schwartz each work to behave as they are expected to in this environment. Rudolph tries to appear remorseful for his sins, though he is not. Father Schwartz tries to act as God in a sense, though he is struggling with is own relationship with God.

Father Schwartz stares at this in an attempt to escape the present. However, the ugly images do not allow this. He is unable to escape his pain no matter where he looks.

Rudolph takes this during church to please his father though he knows he should not. This represents Rudolph's guilt.
