Lesson 1 (from Chapters 1 and 2 )
Objective
The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the author’s background and personal interest in the subject matter reflected in the story. Students will discuss and research information like where the author is from, how old s/he is and what other stories the author has published. Students will consider how this information might impact their reading.
Lesson
Class Discussion: Who is the author of "Absolution"? Where is he from? What year was the story published? How was this work received by the public? What other works has the author written? How might the author’s background influence your reading of the story?
Small Group Activity: Divide students into small groups and ask students to compile a list of facts about the author, encouraging them to include information that impacts the stories, themes, and characters. Regroup and ask students to share their facts...
