Lesson 1 (from "Pack" - "Fight")
Objective
This lesson introduces students to Rosanne Parry’s novel A Wolf Called Wander. In this lesson, students will research the author, read Chapter 1, “Pack,” and analyze the narrative style of the novel. The narrative of A Wolf Called Wander comes from a unique perspective: that of protagonist, Wander, a wild wolf. In telling this story through the eyes of a wolf, author Parry gives the reader insights into Wander’s motivations, thoughts, and perspectives of the world around him while also setting up tensions through Wander’s lack of understanding of the human world he encounters.

Group Activity: Assign students to groups of 3-4 each. As a group, read Chapter 1 of the novel and discuss the information that has been related. Who are the main characters that have been established? What are the circumstances surrounding these characters as the story unfolds?
