Objective
Two types of literature are fiction and non-fiction. Fiction is writing that is not true, such as novels and short stories. Non-fiction is writing that is presented as fact, such as a biography, textbook, or other presentation of a subject. A Vindication of the Rights of Woman is non-fiction. The objective of this lesson is to learn about non-fiction literature in preparation for reading A Vindication of the Rights of Woman.

Class discussion: What is fiction? What is non-fiction? How do you determine whether something is fiction or non-fiction? Is A Vindication of the Rights of Woman fiction or non-fiction? How do you know?
Activity: Divide the students into groups of three or four. Have each group identify the characteristics of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman that make it non-fiction. When they have finished, discuss each groups' findings to create a master list...
