Objective

Chapter 1

Molly and Meg move into their new home in the country, but they do not exactly find what they had expected. The objective of this lesson is to examine this new setting and to discuss the characters' opinions of their new home.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: Read aloud with the class the part of the chapter where Meg says she hopes to leave the farm soon. Discuss this with the class: Why is she not happy here? Why is this not what she wanted? What about the farm house is so disturbing to her? Why do you think this is causing her to feel so unhappy? What does this say about her character? What do you think this could be foreshadowing?
