• In Chapter 1, Watson commented that he took his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1878.
• He took a course for army surgeons and then went to join the Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers as an Assistant Surgeon.
• He arrived in Bombay when war broke out in Afghanistan.
• He and other officers traveled to Candahar, and he joined his regiment and started his duties.
• During the battle of Maiwand, he was injured by a Jezail gunshot to the shoulder.
• While recuperating, he caught the enteric fever.
• When he finally recovered, he was so weak and emaciated that he was sent back to...
