1. What is it like for Young Ju to wade in the ocean?

Young Ju is told to just go to the edge of the ocean to wade. She can only put her feet into the water. When her feet touch the water, the water is very cold. She looks at her toes and thinks they are fat little piggy fish. The water tickles.

2. How does Young Ju feel when she is carried into the ocean?

Young Ju is picked up and told to wrap her legs tightly around her parent. Her parent asks if she is ready to swim in the waves, and all she can say is that she wants her parent to hold her. Her parent shows her how the waves dance, but she is afraid of the deep water and she wants to go back. Her parent shows her the waves and how small they are. Her parent reassures her and says that she will hold her tight and not let her go. Her parent tells her to be brave. They dip in and out of the waves, and Young Ju is delighted and wants to do it again. She feels like a sea bubble floating.
