Objective

This chapter recalls a story where one of the characters imagines millions of aphids are plaguing him.

The aim of this chapter is to examine the effects of drugs.

Lesson

1) Class discussion. How do drugs affect people? How does Dick use humor to depict the serious affect of drug abuse? Do the students think Dick's humor takes away from the serious side of drug abuse? Do the students think that Dick's representation of the affects of drugs is accurate?

2) Ask the students to find an article or short story about the effects of drugs and summarize the story in 250 words. The students should share their summary with the rest of the class.

3) Divide the students into groups of three and ask them to choose one of the drugs Dick represents in the story, fake or otherwise, and write a leaflet about the effects of the drug...
