Lesson 1 (from Part 1)
Objective
The objective of this lesson is to discuss the point of view of the novel in Part 1 of A First Time for Everything and how it influences the narrative. In Part 1, Santat is the narrator and the story is told from his first-person point of view. What a reader knows about events and characters is determined by the point of view. Point of view determines how readers view the story and the characters in a narrative.

Class Discussion: Who is telling the story in Part 1? What pronouns are used in these chapters? Is everything that happens told from Santat's point of view? Does anyone else tell the story? Does Santat reveal his thoughts as he tells his story? Does the reader know what other characters are thinking? What is the point of view of Part 1 of A First Time for Everything?
