Lesson 1 (from Chapter 1)
Objective
John Kennedy Toole's books only became popular after his death and now hold cult status.
The aim of this lesson is to find out about Kennedy's short career as a writer.
Lesson
1) Brainstorm with the students what they already know about John Kennedy Toole. After ten minutes, divide the students into pairs and ask them to research his life, including the books he wrote, where he was brought up, and the jobs he had. On the students' return, compare what they have found and ask the students to individually write a short biography of his life. End the lesson by asking the students to read their work out loud.
