Introduction to the Book and Author:
Today's lesson introduces the class to A Coney Island of the Mind and its author, Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Ferlinghetti (born 1919) is an author of poetry, translations, fiction, theater, art criticism, and film narration. He founded City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, where he published much of the writings of the Beat Generation. A Coney Island of the Mind is his most well-known work. Students in today's class will examine the life and work of the author and overview the collection for study.
