Theme Poem

Taking one of the themes discussed in class, ask the students to write a poem of their own based upon this theme, in whatever style they choose.

Structure Poem

Using one of Ferlinghetti's poems as a guideline, ask students to write their own poem using the same style and structure of Ferlinghetti's poem. Theme may be of their choice.

Documentary

In 2009 a documentary about Lawrence Ferlinghetti and his association with the Beat Generation in San Francisco was released. Watch this video with the class and discuss it as a group.

Source Research Paper

Give students an opportunity to find a source material from which one of the excerpts from the book is taken and read this in its entirety; have students write a paper discussing it.
