Lesson
1. Put a general definition of a civil action and a criminal action on the board before the students come in. The definitions might be something like the following:
A civil action is a lawsuit where one person believes that another person or company has done something wrong to him/her and s/he takes that person or company to court to get money, to make them stop, or to make them do something. It is a dispute between private parties.
A criminal action is a lawsuit where a public prosecutor (a lawyer for the government) takes a person to court because s/he has committed a crime.
