Lesson 1 (from Chapter 1 - Honor)

Objective

The title of this section of the graphic novel is "Honor" and it would make sense to delve into the meaning of this before the book begins as so much of the story is based on the premise of honor. Today's objective is to talk about honor, what it means, and how it might be important within the story.

Lesson

1. Have each student make a list of qualities they associate with a person who they might see as honorable.

2. In smaller groups, have students discuss whether they think one needs to have honor in order to fight in a war. Why or why not?

3. As a class, have the students discuss why honor might be important within this story. What does it provide to those who fight in a war? What advantages might it give to those fighting?
