Objective
Students will meticulously analyze the many different elements of the cover art along with the narrative of 10:04 order to deepen their understanding of the connection between the work's themes and the cover art chosen by Lerner to underscore these themes.
Visual literacy is a very important skill to foster in today's world and the vivid artwork featured on the cover of 10:04 provides an excellent opportunity to teach students skills in visual literacy. One edition of the novel depicts a perplexing and almost sinister image that is hard to decipher at first. Upon further inspection, however, the image reveals itself to be a photograph taken of a blackout occurring only in Manhattan while the rest of the city remains aglow.
