The war in Bosnia was at times fought on two fronts: With Serbia to the east and with Croatia to the west. When Bosnia's war with Serbia began in the Spring of 1992, Bosnia was in alliance with Croatia. This alliance was shortlived, however, and in the summer of that year, Croatia began to invade parts of Bosnia. In an attempt to create a Croatian state within Bosnia, the Bosnian Croat Army began to destroy Bosnian villages and murder the Muslim inhabitants, a process called ethnic cleansing. Croatia's attempts to wrest control of regions in Bosnia quickly failed, however, and in the Spring of 1994, the Croats once again formed an alliance with Bosnia.
