When Muslim-dominated Bosnia seceded from Yugoslavia in March 1992, Bosnian Serbs suddenly found themselves an ethnic minority in the land of their birth. Fearing Muslim domination, the Serbs formed the Bosnian Serb Army (BSA) and began to invade the Muslim regions of the country, hoping to establish Serb-controlled territories. Many commentators who watched the speed with which the BSA gained control of nearly 70 percent of Bosnia argued that Serbia had to be supplying the army with arms and soldiers. As the war dragged on, the media also began to accuse the Serbs of atrocities such as torture in Serb-run concentration camps and rapes of Muslim women. The international community denounced both the Bosnian Serbs and Serbia.
