Members of the U.S. Senate are sworn in as jurors by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Hubbs Rehnquist in the impeachment trial of President Clinton.

The impeachment trial begins.

12 Feb.

President Clinton is acquitted on both Articles of Impeachment.

For the first time in U.S. history, a sitting president is held in contempt of civil court. U.S. District Court Judge Susan Webber Wright holds Clinton in contempt for "giving false, misleading and evasive answers that were designed to obstruct the judicial process" when he was asked about his relationship with Lewinsky. Clinton is required to pay the Court $1,200.
