Calvin Coolidge became president of the United States following the death of Warren G. Harding. (See Harding entry for election results from the Harding/ Coolidge campaign.) Coolidge's victory in 1924 marked the second time that a former vice president finishing his predecessor's term was elected as president on his own in the next election.
