On any street corner in central Moscow, among the homeless grandmothers silently holding out their hands begging and the furred and bejeweled new elite impatiently waiting in their BMWs for the light to change, are the majority of Moscow's citizens. Poor by any definition of the word, they struggle every day to survive. Women in particular are always in a hurry, rushing from errand to errand to complete the many tasks that will keep their families going another day. Though many women have jobs, Muscovites, like other Russians, see responsibility for the home and family as women's work, and so in most homes in Moscow, women are perennially exhausted from the grind and deprivations of their long and often frustrating days. Still, for many typical Muscovites, home is one of the few places where a person feels there is a chance to let down...
