The Latin Kingdom established in Constantinople is conquered by Michael VIII of Nicaea, the successor to the Byzantine emperors.
Having previously been self-governing, the people of Greenland and Iceland swear allegiance to the king of Norway, who has sought to unite all Norwegian Viking settlements under his reign. Iceland is ruled separately from Norway and continues to hold its Athling, though now mainly to settle legal disputes.
