Mongol invaders led by Hiilegii, brother of Great Khan Mongke, take Baghdad and kill the last 'Abbasid caliph, al-Musta'sim, ending the rule of the Seljuqs. Hiilegii founds the Il-Khanid dynasty to rule Persia as part of the Mongol empire.
