After Christian forces fail to retake Jerusalem, the Third Crusade ends with a three-year truce in which Saladin allows the Crusaders to retain a small strip of land on the Levantine coast and gives them access to Jerusalem.
Defeated by Indian troops at Taraori 1191, Muslim Ghurid leader Mu'izz-ud-Din returns to win a great victory that marks the destruction of Buddhism in India and opens the way for his subordinates to establish Ghurid control over northern India.
