Circa Seventh Century B.C.E.
Chief Royal Physician
A Favorite of the King. Urad-Nanaya was an exorcist who rose to the position of chief physician to the Assyrian king Esarhaddon (680-669 B.C.E.). Urad-Nanaya corresponded with the king regularly, and fourteen of his letters are preserved. He was especially favored because he was the son of one of the highest-ranking scholars at court, Adadshumausur, personal exorcist and close confidant of Esarhaddon.
