In March 1995, Jonathan Schmitz, 26, appeared on the Jenny Jones Show to meet a secret admirer. Although Jones producers insist that Schmitz knew his admirer could be a woman or a man, Schmitz was shocked and embarrassed when the admirer turned out to be a his gay neighbor, Scott Amedure, 32. Three days after the taping, Schmitz took a twelve-gauge to Amedure's home and fired twice at close range into Amedure's chest. Minutes later, Schmitz called 911 and said, "I just walked in the room and killed him." Schmitz's lawyer claimed that Schmitz was deceived by Jenny Jones representatives then snapped three days later when he found a sexually suggestive note on his doorstep and assumed that it was Amedure.
