In the meantime, another young man in New York City was likewise accused of sexual harassment. This time, a seven-year-old had been given a five-day suspension (that was later rescinded) for kissing a female class-mate and tearing a button from her skirt. The boy claimed he took the button because his favorite story, Corduroy, was about a teddy bear with a missing button. Critics, including the city's mayor, Rudolph W. Giuliani (R), claimed the school had overreacted.
