Metal Revival.

After a lull in the middle of the decade heavy metal had a revival toward the end of the 1990s. In 1997 the first Ozzfest, featuring Marilyn Manson, grossed almost as much money as the highest grossing tour package of the women's rock tour Lilith Fair. The metal bands of the 1990s had disparate sounds, but the general approach was aggressive and disturbing lyrics and guitar music with a hint of hip-hop and electrical wizardry. Some bands were classed as "death metal," a reference to their macabre outlook, which seems to appeal mostly to male college students.

Satanism.
