On 9 October 1999 three all-star concerts were staged as a sequel to the 1985 Live Aid famine relief concert. This .time however the concerts were broadcasts on the internet, on the Net Aid website www.netaid.org, marking the .first time a benefit concert was aired in this way. Held at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Wembley 'Stadium in London, and the Palais de Nations in Geneva, the three overlapping concerts were primarily* to promote the website of the United Nations Development Pro-gram, a clearinghouse for world volunteer efforts, fund-raising, agricultural information, business development, and internet organizing. Net Aid sent out 125,000 simultaneous video streams to 132 countries— ten times more than any previous online video casts.
The U.S.'concert took lasted eight hours and featured acts such as Wyclef Jean with Bono, Puff Daddy, Sting, Jewel, Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, Sheryl Crow...
