Alleged Rape Victim

First Report.

On Sunday, 29 November 1987, the 1.2 million viewers of New York City's channel 2 first heard of an incident that would make their skin crawl. A teenage black girl named Tawana Brawley had been found partially naked, wrapped in plastic, with human feces smeared over her body and in her hair. The letters KKK were scratched onto her chest, over her breasts, and the words nigger, nigger were written onto her stomach. Initial re-ports were that she had been kidnapped by a white man who had flashed a police badge and then taken her to a wooded area on the previous Tuesday, where she had been held captive for four days, raped, and sodomized by six white men, some or all of whom may have been law enforcement officers. Early reports were that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was investigating.
