There were several Levittowns built during the late 1940s and early 1950s, as Levitt and Sons, the company that built the suburbs, flourished until the beginning of the Korean War, when a moratorium on house building slowed the pace of its growth. Levittowns were suburbs comprised of prefabricated houses that included modern appliances and were surrounded by village greens, parks, and stores.
