The Treaty of Versailles is signed by the victorious Allied powers in the Hall of Mirrors, bringing World War I to an official end. Under the terms of the treaty Germany cedes territory to France and Poland, accepts strict limits on the size of its military, is forced to pay reparations, and admits its role in starting the conflict. The treaty also creates a League of Nations, which has been advocated by Woodrow Wilson as a means of arbitrating international disputes.
