Both Great Britain and Germany claim victory in one of the epic sea battles of the war, off Jutland (Denmark). The Royal Navy has lost seven ships and close to seven thousand men, while Germany has lost three ships and twenty-three hundred sailors. After this battle Germany keeps most of its fleet in port, surrendering supremacy of the seas, with the exception of submarine warfare, to the British.
