Description
George M. Cohan is one of America's premier writers and performers. He created such classic songs as "Grand Old Flag" and "Over There." The country was encouraged by his patriotism during the difficult times of World War I. Eventually, he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his contribution during this time.
As a child, George Cohan was bratty, rude, and extremely difficult. He and his parents and sister, Josie, toured across America in vaudeville shows. The family, known as the Four Cohans, was extremely popular, but over time, the family continually lost bookings because of George's attitude. Finally, George sent the rest of his family to continue performing without him, and he made it on his own on Broadway.
