Mutants Affect the Family
One appropriate conclusion to draw from the film is that being a mutant has a dramatic affect on one's family. In the world of the X-Men, it seems that most young mutants are alone. Realizing this plight, Professor X has taken it upon himself to develop a place of refuge for them.
The most moving plot line exploring the effects of a mutant on the family is when Bobby must "come out" to his parents, disclosing that he is a mutant. His brother becomes openly hostile, while his mother asks if he has ever tried not being a mutant (in essence, not being himself, or who he really is).
