Alvin Straight takes the journey of a lifetime in The Straight Story. After Alvin finds out that his brother, Lyle, is sick, he sets out on his lawnmower to visit and make amends. Alvin embarks upon a six-week journey from Iowa to Wisconsin so that he can make things right with his brother.

As Alvin journeys, he meets many people along the way and affects their lives. First, he meets Crystal and helps her to realize the importance of family, even though her family may be a little disappointed in her. Then, he helps Danny and the others see the value of persistence and integrity.
