As the film begins, we see many people sitting in a room full of windows in an asylum. One man pulls a chair to the window and begins to talk to Karl Childers. The man tells Karl about the women he took from people who did not deserve them. The man killed many women in his life. A group of journalism students arrive at the hospital to meet with a murderer. They meet with the head of the hospital who tells them that pictures are not allowed because Karl is sensitive about having his picture made. Finally, he agrees to talk to Karl and see if they can take pictures.
