Operating Room
Throughout M*A*S*H the operating room enhances the story. From start to finish, the audience sees that the characters' entire lives revolve around their work in the operating room. They see many terrible things there, so they have to use the rest of their time trying to pretend that things are easier than they really are.
When in the operating room, though, life is still not completely serious. Although the problems of the patients are serious and can be life threatening, the doctors must remain optimistic so that they can deal with their situation.
The audience also sees the relationships between doctors and nurses. Margaret is appalled at the explicit relationships and sexual conversations between the doctors and nurses. She believes that the nurses not only deserve more respect but should want it as well. Despite Margaret's best efforts, life continues as before so that...
