Modes of Travel
Various modes of travel help tell the story of Ellie and Peter's trip to New York and their journey to love. As their relationship changes so does their mode of travel. In addition, we see Ellie traveling even before she meets Peter. While on the yacht with her father, Ellie shows a complete lack of respect for her father and an unwillingness to face her problems.
When Ellie and Peter first meet, they are riding on a bus together headed to New York City from Miami. Ellie had an old woman buy her ticket so that she can get onto the bus, but there are few seats left by the time she boards. The two must share the seat that Peter cleared, and they begin an uneasy, love-hate relationship on the bus.
