Being John Malkovich moves the viewer into an entirely different universe. The director and writer use plot devices and stylistic decisions to portray this alternate universe. Spike Jonze has a certain style, a type of approach to this film that allows the implausible and unbelievable events to seem possible. As the film begins, we are introduced to Craig, an out-of-work puppeteer, who tries to make statements through his art. In real life, it is unbelievable that someone would actually spend their days performing on the side of the street or trying to beat out a competing puppeteer; however, in the world of the film, it slowly begins to seem normal.
Craig's job on Floor 71/2 adds to this world by creating a world of its own. Floor 71/2 has an amusing cast of odd people, including Floris, Dr. Lester, and Maxine, who make anything seem possible...
