Overpopulation of the Earth
Summary: Overpopulation of the Earth carries significant global impacts that affect our standards of living. It leads to famine, environmental deterioration, and the depletion of natural resources. These problems already exist and are becoming worse each day as the population continues to grow. Governments should create global laws that will mandate the control of population growth more effectively in order to further improve and better our lives.
According to SIRS Knowledge Source, it took all of recorded history until 1800 for world population to reach one billion; it took another 130 years to reach two billion; by 1960, it hit three billion; 1975, four billion; 1987, five billion; and, in 1998, we crossed the six billion mark. The Earth's population is continually rising at an exponential rate and is projected to reach 9 billion in the year 2035. Can the Earth carry the load? This mass surplus of the population has significant global impacts that affect our standards of living. Overpopulation leads to famine, environmental deterioration and the depletion of natural resources. Unfortunately, these problems already exist today and are becoming even more worse of a problem each day. There isn't much we can do for what has already happened but, our futures can be controlled. Therefore, I believe that governments should create global laws that will mandate the control of population growth...
