Mussolini's Fascist Government
Summary: Benito Mussolini was the fascist dictator of Italy during World War II. The fascist style of government was known for its aggressive nationalism, suppression of individual liberties and centralized control of the economy. Musslini's plan helped Italy through hard times, but was short-sighted when it came to the economy and planning for war.
"Duce! Duce! Duce! [Leader! Leader! Leader!]" the crowd chants, filling the sky above Rome with their love and adoration"(Downing 5). The "Duce" whom the people of Italy were chanting for was Benito Mussolini. Mussolini may have been best known as the Italian dictator during World War II but he also had a much greater role. He was the founding father of Fascism and finally took this new form of government to action. Just look at the Roman Empire and how long it lasted, Mussolini wanted the same with modern day Italy.
