John Proctor as an American Tragic Hero in "The Crucible"
Summary: The character of John Proctor in Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" is a classic example of the tragic hero in American literature.
There are many different characteristics that when molded together form an American Tragic Hero. Some of these characteristics may be minuscule, however they are crucial when applied to an American Tragic Hero. Some of these characteristics include Tragic Flaw, Increased Awareness, and the Punishment Exceeds the Crime. In the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller the character John Proctor is considered to be an American Tragic Hero.
John Proctor shows many characteristics that are necessary and crucial in creating an American Tragic Hero. One of the characteristics that John Proctor demonstrates is his Tragic Flaw. This Tragic Flaw was not very visible at first, however after continuing within the first few acts the reader learns that John Proctor was once physically attracted to Abigail Williams.
